About us
We are William and Monique; we have chosen to exchange our hectic life in the Netherlands for a life with more pleasure and quality of life. The wish we both cherished brought us to the "Silver Coast" in Central Portugal. The region has many beautiful beaches and an abundance of historical and impressive sights.
An old olive plantation on a hill overlooking the beautiful valley of Batalha with lots of greenery, vineyards, olive groves and the city of Batalha with the famous "Mosteiro" centrally located is now our home.
We chose Batalha because of its central location between a wealth of historical sights and cities. The Olive Hill Guesthouse is the perfect starting point to visit the pilgrimage place Fatima, the queen town of Obidos, the beautiful monastery of Alcobaça, the "Convento de Christo" in Tomar and many other places of interest. The famous fishing village of Nazaré with the fortress and the beautiful church on the high situated “Sitio” and the beautiful beaches where from the end of October, until December surfer waves of 25 - 30 meters high can be seen with the right weather conditions. This together with the quiet coast-line where villages like Valé de Paredes and Sao Pedro de Moel and many more beaches can be found within 30-45 minutes' drive.
The city of Leiria with the beautiful old town and the impressive "Castello" and many good restaurants and authentic shops is also very nice for a day out. The cities of Coimbra, Lisbon and Porto can also be visited for a day trip.
We have discovered hiking and mountain biking in Portugal, and we can offer you beautiful walking trails with different levels of difficulty.
The nature reservation, Serra da Aires e Candeeiros is as if you go back in time. You have many hiking trails and mountain-biking possibilities, there is a beautiful lake, a waterfall, a climbing wall. In the area there are also climbing possibilities and trails with where Dinosaurs once have walked around can be found.
If you let us know on time, we can rent very good mountain bikes for you.
For us it is important to welcome and treat our guests as we would like to be treated ourselves. We want to give our guests the feeling of a home, with hospitality in a relaxed environment and fully furnished bungalows and rooms. We see it as a privilege to introduce our guests to all the beauty and flavours that Portugal has to offer.
